Intergen volunteer helps Burnage Boys win Regional debate cup
Burnage Boys Academy High school has much to celebrate as they held high the Regional debate cup at the competition held at Manchester University and organised by debatemate charity. Mr Paul Slater, Aimhigh tutor, has supported the students in their presentation skills and getting them to “think on their feet” talking on all sorts of topics from culture, economics and politics. The winning team were in London more recently and came within the top 10 teams debating that day. Considering 180 teams took part through all the Regional heats the Burnage Boys Academy has achieved a great deal this year.
Intergen volunteer Mary Christie, has watched the debating team grow with confidence over the school year and said, “…the boys have been challenged to debate many topical issues and this winning team will have developed skills for life. Their enthusiasm and motivation has been a joy to watch.” I am looking forward to re-joining the debatemate team in the Autumn.
